Certified Medication Aide (PM)
About the Role
The Care Partner/Certified Medication Aide assists with the administration of medications and participates in health maintenance activities that do not include complex activities of daily living. The Care Partner provides person-directed duties consistent with enabling Members to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. Responsibilities include meeting personal service needs, facilitating social, emotional, and cognitive engagement, and supporting activities of daily living with a focus on limited health maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Assists members with dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, positioning, turning, and toileting as needed.
- Collects limited specimen types as instructed.
- Reports and records observations daily by the end of shift.
- Answers call lights promptly.
- Changes bed linens, handles laundry, makes beds, and keeps rooms clean and orderly.
- Provides the highest level of person-directed care, honoring and respecting Members' rights to make choices regarding their daily lives, activities, and medical care.
- Upholds the Model of Care in the Households, ensuring all team members provide person-directed care.
- Understands common classifications of medications and recognizes side effects and adverse reactions.
- Follows infection control procedures related to medication assistance.
- Performs proper documentation, record-keeping, and assistance in medication administration, storage, and disposal, including:
- Checking and safely preparing medications.
- Administering medications based on state CMA guidelines and within Assisted Living regulatory provisions.
- Documenting medication assistance.
- Notifying LPN of any adverse reactions or issues with medication.
- Adheres to all HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintains safe and sanitary work stations and equipment.
- Encourages independence and facilitates meaningful activities, ongoing engagement, and one-on-one interaction.
- Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
- Performs all other specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
- Successful completion of a State-approved geriatric nursing assistant training program.
- Prior geriatric nursing aide experience is preferred.
- Registration with State registry required.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
- Ability to document care given.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting.
- May be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV.
- Must be able to transport members via wheelchair or shower chair, pushing up to 150 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to transfer, turn, and position a member weighing up to 125 lbs. utilizing assistance when needed.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the work day.
- May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.
- Must be able to reach above your head occasionally.
- Must be able to push a dietary cart up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally.
Schedule
- 12-hour shift (7 p.m. – 7 a.m. or day shift).
- Weekly day range: Every other weekend or every Friday.
