Position Summary
The Certified Medication Aide supports the nursing department by administering medications as prescribed, monitoring residents for adverse reactions, and maintaining precise documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify resident identity prior to medication administration.
- Administer prescribed medications accurately and in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
- Document all medication details, including drug name, dosage, route, and time of administration.
- Monitor residents for side effects or adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to the supervising nurse.
- Record and document reasons for medications not administered.
- Absorb and record vital signs as required.
- Assist with direct resident care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and supporting examinations or treatments.
- Receive, prepare, and distribute medications per established procedures.
- Maintain and restock medication carts and inventory as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations and facility policies.
Qualifications
- Completion of a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course.
- Active certification in good standing in the state of Iowa.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to resident safety.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
