About the role

A Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides routine nursing care and ensures the medication pass is completed timely and accurately in accordance with established policies and procedures. Under the direction of the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator, the CMA helps maintain the highest degree of quality resident care at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in passing medications to residents on the assigned unit.
  • Prepare residents for therapy, activities, physician visits, and religious services, including transporting residents to and from such activities.
  • Prepare and administer medications, ensuring the right medications are given to the right patient at the right time, in the right dosage, and by the right route.
  • Assist residents with proper hygiene and bathe residents as assigned, encouraging self-help measures and activities.
  • Follow infection control procedures in accordance with established facility policy when isolation techniques are necessary.
  • Chart required information every shift pertaining to the role of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA).
  • Present a professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech.
  • Adhere to company standards for resolving consumer concerns.
  • Ensure all consumer/resident rights are protected.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Willingness to handle residents based on their current maturity level.
