Certified Medical Technologist II, Part Time, Third Shift, Blood Bank

About the Role

The Certified Medical Technologist II performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems, develops alternatives when necessary, and stays current in laboratory theory and technique. This role requires independent judgment and interpretation, as well as responsibility for problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Engages in population-appropriate communication and recognizes growth and development milestones.
• Provides clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment and involves them in care.
• Identifies physical limitations and behavioral health needs, responding appropriately.
• Interprets population-related data and plans care accordingly, including addressing unique psychological, religious, or cultural needs.
• Performs treatments, administers medication, and operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Performs waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA, including special analyses requiring advanced evaluation and judgment.
• Uses protocols, guidelines, and independent judgment to evaluate test results for credibility and accuracy.
• Coordinates testing steps to maximize productivity and efficiency.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment, including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, and safety checks.
• Recognizes and resolves instrument, equipment, and reagent problems, keeping appropriate personnel informed.
• Maintains currency in the field through mandatory competencies, training, and continuing education.
• Provides instruction for students and new associates.
• Performs and records quality control procedures, evaluates results, and implements corrective actions as needed.
• Performs ongoing data analysis to detect trends and problems, undertaking specialized corrective actions.
• Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture within scope of training and demonstrated competency.
• Competently accessions, triages, and processes specimens for testing and transit, evaluating samples for acceptability.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum Required: Associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
• Required Certification: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
• Preferred: Laboratory experience.
• Required Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of specimen requirements and laboratory terminology.
  • Familiarity with laboratory assay schedules and expected turnaround times.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written information.
  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
• Preferred: Keyboarding skills.
