Job Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Provides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.
  • Adheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.
  • Upholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description.
  • Rotates among various clinical and non-clinical service areas such as lab, x-ray, and front office.
  • Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.
  • Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population-specific education.
  • Performs x-ray procedures to assist providers in the treatment of patients.
  • Performs laboratory tests according to orders and instructions.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

A High School Diploma or GED, General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting.

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

  • CMA - Cert Medical Assistant
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor

Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

  • Current certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA), NCCT (NCMA), NAHP (NRCMA)

Required Minimum Experience

Experience in the physician practice setting, preferred experience in the urgent care setting, preferred experience performing phlebotomy, preferred experience performing x-rays, and will provide training within the first 90 days.
