About the role
The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back-office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the appropriate provider has addressed any patient questions or concerns. This position may float to various sites within the health system.
Responsibilities
- Escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
- Taking vital signs as per guidelines
- Maintaining examination rooms' stock
- Documenting all patient communications
- Preparing lab specimens for processing
- Completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same
- Scheduling patients for tests
- Placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record
- Administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies
- Assisting with the tracking and coordination of patient test results
- Assisting with reminders for patients of overdue health maintenance topics
- Assisting other members of the Medical Home Care Team in delivering optimal patient-centered care
Requirements
- Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
- AHA BLS certification required within 90 days
- One of the following certifications required at time of hire: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), State of Nevada EMT certification (basic, advanced, paramedic)
- Computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
