Certified Medical Assistant - UNR Primary Care-Plumas

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting providers in both front and back-office procedures. This position involves providing a direct liaison between the provider and patient, ensuring that all patient questions or concerns are addressed appropriately. This role may float to various sites within the health system.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
• Take vital signs as per guidelines
• Maintain examination rooms' stock
• Document all patient communications
• Prepare lab specimens for processing
• Complete necessary referral forms and obtain authorizations for referrals
• Schedule patients for tests
• Place and receive phone calls in order of importance and file into patient charts
• Administer treatments and medications per provider order
• Review medications, set goals, and educate patients
• Track and coordinate patient test results
• Remind patients of overdue health maintenance topics
• Assist other members of the Medical Home Care Team in delivering optimal patient-centered care
• Assist the provider in back office duties, including:
• Escorting patients to the examination room
• Taking vital signs
• Maintaining examination rooms' stock
• Preparing lab specimens
• Completing referral forms
• Scheduling patients for tests
• Placing and receiving phone calls
• Administering treatments and medications

Requirements

• Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
• AHA BLS certification required within 90 days
• One of the following certifications required at time of hire: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) State of Nevada EMT certification (basic, advanced, paramedic)
• Computer / Typing skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Qualifications

• Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
• Multi-physician office practice experience highly preferred

Skills

• Knowledge of technical work with orthopedic bracing and casting
• Ability to apply, fit, and adjust casts, splints, and braces
• Ability to trim, split, remove casts as required
• Ability to adjust braces to physician specification
• Documentation and patient education related to cast, splints, or braces
• Ability to instruct on cast care, brace/splint application, and care
• Assistance in operating room, inpatient units, and emergency room
• Assist physician with application of splints, casts, and braces
• Modify or split casts as needed
• Instruct patients on cast care, brace/splint application, and care
• Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms per MA requirements
• Stock exam rooms, inventory specialty items, and initiate reorder of supplies as needed
• Maintain tools and equipment
• Setup fluoroscopy machine for care provider use
• Contact vendors about brace orders
• Coordinate with patients to assist in completing workups
• Complete forms prior to physician review
• Assistance in operating room, inpatient units, and emergency room
• Assist physician with application of splints, casts, and braces as needed
• Modify or split casts as needed
• Instruct patients on cast care, brace/splint application, and care
