Certified Medical Assistant - Physician Practice

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures.
• Captures and documents patient information into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR).
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Aids in provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splinting.
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care.
• Notifies patients of test and lab results.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR).
• Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Requirements

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA).
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

• Required: Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification.
• Preferred: Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
