Certified Medical Assistant - OB/GYN Clinic

About the Role

This job provides individualized medical care of assigned patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. You will assist in delivering health care services to patients of various backgrounds and ages, maintain positive relationships with patients and their families, and work effectively with fellow employees to ensure efficient patient flow. The role involves communicating via phone to meet patient needs, accessing data systems to document medical information, and supporting both patients and providers throughout their visit.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Addresses patient questions before they leave and prepares the room for the next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Completes appropriate documentation, including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials through personal professional development.
• Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs if working in an occupational health clinic.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanations, requesting permissions, and communication style.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Completion of a formal medical assistant training program (preferred).
• Experience working with and maintaining confidential information, including experience in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Medical Assistant Certification (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required).

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
• Works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain communicable diseases, posing an occupational risk for exposure.
• Potential exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
