Licensure, Certification, or Registration required for hire and continued employment:

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association).
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience

Required:

  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft Office and email.
  • Demonstrated experience with strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic healthcare environment.

Education/Training

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of a physician.
  • Functions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN to provide patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from a supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care deviating from standard, and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Handles, transports, accesses, and/or contacts medications and related supplies.

Schedule

  • Works all three shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Shift rotation and schedules established with Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
  • Schedules, including shift rotations and hours, may be adjusted to meet clinic requirements.

Physical Requirements

Physical:

  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).

Mental/Sensory:

  • Strong recall, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear speaking, legible writing, and reading abilities.
  • Logical thinking.

Emotional:

  • Able to handle a fast-paced environment and multiple priorities.
  • Able to adapt to frequent changes.

Pay

Compensation grade range: $19.00 - $28.51 per hour. Actual salary offers will be based on relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
