About the role
The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to assist providers in delivering quality health care to customer-owners and their families. This position requires a minimum of 4 years of Certified Medical Assistant experience.
Responsibilities
- Create, develop, and nurture culturally appropriate interactions.
- Apply customer service guidelines appropriate for the situation.
- Absorb and assist providers in the delivery of quality health care.
- Perform basic medical procedures before and after examination, such as taking vital signs, rooming the patient, performing phlebotomy, specimen collection, dressing changes, medication administration, scheduling patient appointments and procedures, documenting care in the healthcare record, and assisting in ensuring smooth patient flow.
- Maintain a clean work environment, report defective or missing equipment and safety hazards.
- Absorb and assist in disaster planning and activities.
- Provide feedback on the quality of care being delivered and assist in its improvement to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure availability of drug stock supply, other supplies, and equipment by completing daily inventories of various medical items and submitting supply requests for replacement.
- Perform equipment inventory and maintenance.
- Complete daily quality control testing and documentation of blood glucose meters where applicable.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees.
- Procure, organize, and clean the office.
- Act as a mentor or trainer for the CMA team.
- Work with department leadership to provide input on process improvement opportunities and support implementing change processes.
- May act as a backup for the timekeeper.
Requirements
- Knowledge of safety factors and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written, to interact with patients and families.
- Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and treatment.
- Skill in providing and maintaining accurate documentation in the patient's health record.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Skill in learning the computer system and applying the knowledge to accurately schedule patient appointments and tests.
- Skill in setting up, maintaining, and interpreting data from a wide variety of medical equipment and monitoring devices.
- Skill in the application of basic first aid.
- Skill in injections, vital signs, and phlebotomy.
- Skill in setting up medical devices.
Skills
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from NCCT, AAMA, NHA, or AMCA.
- Basic Life Support certification.
