About the role

As a Certified Medical Assistant 1 Float, you will handle patient healthcare under the guidance of professionals. Your tasks will include record-keeping, medication administration, injections, and vital sign documentation, providing valuable support for smooth patient care.

Responsibilities

• Act as a versatile resource for various clinics within a designated, local area.
• Assist in patient examination and treatment under the guidance of a physician.
• Maintain treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness after procedures and restocking supplies.
• Assist and accompany patients from the waiting room to the examination room, ensuring their comfort.
• Interview patients and record information in their medical records; collect medical data to help physicians assess patient health and needs.
• Prepare all necessary documents and forms for each office visit.
• Check patient vital signs before exams, tests, procedures, and x-rays, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform routine patient testing, including acquiring and processing electrocardiograms, and collecting and processing blood and urine samples.
• Administer oral, rectal medications, and vaccines as directed; report any adverse reactions promptly.
• Remove sutures and staples, and change sterile and non-sterile dressings as required.

Requirements

• Open to frequent travel to different clinics within a specified, local region.
• Medical assistant certification from an approved program (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists).
• Understanding of the "five rights" of medication administration: right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time.
• Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and ability to record patient information following policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Ability to observe patients' physical condition and promptly report abnormalities to medical personnel.
• Capable of administering injections and drawing blood.
• Proficient in medical terminologies and handling medical charts and records.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, making patients feel comfortable, reassured, and valued.
• High regard for detail and ability to follow instructions from doctors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Less than one year of experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from one of the following:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or ARMA
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from NCCT
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from NHA
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT, AAMP, or AAH
  • National Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from NAHP
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from AMCA
