Certified Medical Assistant Float

About the Role

Certified Medical Assistant 1 Float handles patient healthcare under professionals' guidance. Tasks include record-keeping, medication administration, injections, and vital sign documentation. Provide valuable support for smooth patient care.

Location: BSW Health Specialty C Pod (FLOAT) - Dallas 4501 Swiss Ave, Dallas, 75204. Schedule: 8-5p, Monday-Friday. This role involves floating to Specialty clinics around the Dallas area and Primary Care clinics around the south Dallas area.

Responsibilities

• Act as a versatile resource for various clinics within a designated, local area.
• Be involved in patient examination and treatment under the guidance of a physician.
• Keep treatment rooms ready for patient examination, ensuring their cleanliness after procedures and maintaining supplies.
• Ensure the comfort of patients by assisting and accompanying them from waiting room to examination room.
• Interview patients and record information in their medical records. Collect medical data to help physicians assess patient health and needs.
• Ready all necessary documents and forms for each office visit.
• Check patient vital signs before exams, tests, procedures, and x-rays. This includes pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform routine patient testing, including acquiring and processing electrocardiograms, and collecting and processing blood and urine samples.
• Administer oral and rectal medications, and vaccines as directed. Report any adverse reactions promptly.
• Remove sutures and staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings as required.

Key Success Factors

• Open to frequent travel to different clinics within a specified, local region to perform assigned tasks.
• Medical assistant certification from an approved program, such as American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists.
• Well-versed in the critical values of secure and accurate medical administration.
• Understand the fundamentals of "five rights" - right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time.
• Record patient info following policies, regulations, and procedures. Familiar with HIPAA guidelines.
• Naturally observe patients' physical condition and promptly report any abnormalities to medical personnel.
• Capable of administering injections and drawing blood.
• Adept at medical terminologies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills make patients feel comfortable. Come across as friendly, reassuring and approachable.
• Comfortable taking instructions from doctors.
• Accustomed to handling medical charts and records.
• Display high regard for detail.

Qualifications

• Education: H.S. Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Experience: Less than (1) one year of experience.
• Certification/License/Registration:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within (30) thirty days of hire or transfer.
  • Cert Medical Assistant (CMA): Must be CMA from one of the following:
    • Nat Cert Med Asst (NCMA) from NCCT
    • Cert Medical Asst (CMA) from AAMA or ARMA
    • Cert Cln Med Asst (CCMA) from NHA
    • Reg Med Asst (RMA) from AMT, AAMP or AAH
    • Nat Reg Cert Med Asst (NRCMA) from NAHP
    • Cln Med Asst Cert (CMAC) from AMCA
