About the Role

Assist providers and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information, preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures. Responsible for managing a tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to regularly monitor patients' disease status. Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-10 coding. Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information and preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures.
• Obtain patients' review of systems and history, measure vital signs (weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature), and complete all necessary documentation in the patient’s chart consistent with clinical protocol.
• Demonstrate competence in clinical skills necessary for basic rooming functions, including vital signs and completion of screening questions at the time of visit.
• Draw and collect blood and other samples from patients, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as required.
• Carry out clinical orders given by the provider, including administering medications and vaccinations orally or by injection, as deemed appropriate by scope of competency.
• Manage the tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to support patient health.
• Assist in managing results and follow-up as determined by the provider.
• Complete tasks within the scope of certification, licensure, and competency as delegated by the provider to support patient care.
• Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider.
• Complete appropriate forms or requisitions for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-10 coding.
• Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record using standardized workflows and processes.
• Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members as directed by the provider.
• Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and their relationship to patient status, taking next steps as appropriate to scope and licensure.
• Maintain awareness of clinic/department and organizational updates by attending meetings, reading emails, and checking the organization’s intranet site.
• Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPAA, and workplace rules.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
• Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by exceeding customer expectations.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to others' views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Clinic Administrator to facilitate smooth and effective office operations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification (e.g., NCCT, AAMA, AMT, NHA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire (American Heart Association).
• Work experience as a certified medical assistant.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $18.33 per hour to $29.69 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
