Overview
Texas Urology Specialists is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join their team in Longview. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position from 8am-5pm, excluding weekends, call, and major holidays. The position can be at level 1, 2, or senior based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
- Records patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
- Aids physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
- Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
- Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Answers patient phone calls for referrals to physicians or pharmacists.
- Phones in prescriptions and handles other patient calls as directed by physicians and nurses.
- Informs physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows.
- Performs other administrative duties, such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception work, as requested by supervisor or physician.
- May enter orders under a provider's direction and supervision.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent, with 0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
- Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
- Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant for Level 2.
- Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting for Level Sr.
- Current CPR certification required for Level Sr.
Physical Demands
The work environment includes exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
