About the role
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
Responsibilities
- Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure
- Handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies
- Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs
Requirements
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program; no work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
- Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications
- Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) — preferred
- Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant — preferred
- Previous experience in an academic health care environment — preferred
Schedule
- Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays
- Individual shift rotation and schedules established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager
- Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed
