About the role

Responsible for rendering clinical care within the medical practice in support of and as directed by the physician and/or Radiation Oncology Nurse. Assists in the day-to-day operation of the office to ensure quality patient care, including scheduling, administrative tasks, and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule appointments, prepare reports, and manage third-party payer information and administrative utilization data.
  • Assist with answering telephones, registering new patients, scheduling appointments, and completing prior authorizations for treatment.
  • Handle day-to-day operations of the medical practice, including scheduling of x-rays, scans, new referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure excellent customer service for every patient while multitasking and maintaining accuracy.
  • Work with physician practice coding (RO ICD-9 and CPT) and prior authorization processes.
  • Utilize multiple practice software systems and analyze data to form recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with others and function as a team member.

Requirements

  • Technical or vocational school plus up to 2 years of specialty training.
  • Two years of related experience, including working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA (MA or nursing school may count toward experience).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand patient medical records, physician’s orders, and communicate medical information effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with patients, family members, employees, and physicians.
  • Experience with physician practice coding (RO ICD-9 and CPT) and prior authorization processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data entry.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze data and form recommendations.
  • Works well in a team environment.
