Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to patients in a withdrawal management (detox) and residential substance use treatment setting.
- Greet patients using excellent customer service skills using trauma-informed care.
- Answer telephones with excellent customer service and conduct phone screenings for inpatient programs.
- Accompany patients to and from their rooms or their units for various appointments or activities, including to their visits in the exam room with a provider.
- Maintain patient areas so they are neat and presentable, including making beds, sorting linens and ensuring patients have access to basic needs.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Monitor patients in various inpatient programs and complete clinical documentation of observations and vital signs.
- Arrange patient transfer to a higher level of care or discharge to lower level of care.
- Assist medical staff, nursing staff and counseling staff in a variety of patient-centered tasks.
- Primarily this position will require the CMA to work day shift Monday through Friday from 3:30pm to 12:00am and potential for rotating holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Health Science and/or certification in Medical Assistant
- One year or more of experience in patient care within a healthcare environment or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Must have successfully completed the requirements to obtain a certification in Medical Assistant by an accredited institution.
- Thorough knowledge of substance use and behavioral health disorders.
- Thorough knowledge of laws, regulations, and pertaining to long-term care.
- Skilled in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using technical and nontechnical language.
- Skilled in operating general medical devices and interpreting subsequent readings, including vital signs, fingerstick blood sugar checks, EKG placement and interpreting urine drug screen and urinalysis dips.
- Skilled in operating a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR certification.
- A valid SC driver’s license or the ability to obtain one upon acceptance of the position.
