About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) works under the supervision of the Site Manager, the PCMH Care Coordinator, and the Director of Nursing. They assist patients and their families in clinical interactions with their provider, ensuring optimal health outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and families cordially at every visit, using cultural sensitivity and customer service skills.
  • Escort patients to check-out and ensure concerns and questions are addressed.
  • Absorb and relay information on reason for visit, medical history, social history, family history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and others.
  • Enter information into the electronic medical records, verify accuracy, and review answers at subsequent visits.
  • Inform providers about recent provider visits, received medications, and hospital stays.
  • Participate in Care Team meetings to prepare for patient visits and anticipate needs.
  • Assist in providing translation services or obtaining access to language line if needed.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all patients by following HIPAA regulations and policies.
  • Remain present in the exam room during certain examinations.
  • Inform providers when patients are ready and review clinical information to expedite visits.
  • Ensure patients understand instructions and obtain follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Perform vital sign checks, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and pain scale.
  • Verify and repeat blood pressure readings.
  • Follow standing orders for patients with diabetes, hypertension, and others.
  • Obtain fingerstick samples for glucose, hemoglobin, and hemoglobin A1C, as well as urine specimens for dip tests, pregnancy tests, and cultures.
  • Administer vaccines and other ordered treatments as per provider orders and certifications.
  • Assist with the completion of forms, insurance referrals, and other paperwork.
  • Perform annual competencies for translation, vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomies, and other relevant skills.
  • Perform EKGs and phlebotomies as per provider orders and certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant
  • Current certification for EKG, Phlebotomy, and BLS
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a clinical/medical setting, or at least 120 hours of externship experience

Salary

$19.00 - $24.34 per hour
