Certified Medical Assistant position at Lancaster Family Health Center at Beverly in Salem, OR. Full time, non-exempt. 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week). EMR system is EPIC. $22.73–$33.47/hour DOE. Additional pay for bilingual skills, paid on hours worked.

Hiring/Retention Bonus

  • At hire: $1,500.00
  • At 180 days (6 months): $2,000.00
  • At 12 months: $1,500.00
  • Bonus prorated based on Full-Time Equivalency (FTE)

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain patient medical records, updating patient medical history, current status including vital signs, medical treatments and medication provided.
  • Review and update patient immunization records.
  • Prepare for patient visits: review the patient file, including requests for labs, referrals and correspondence; verify and ensure necessary reports are present; provide updates to Provider team as needed.
  • Collaborate with Providers to ensure efficiency of schedules and continuity of care; discuss patients scheduled for the day including pre-visit prep.
  • Prepare and maintain patient exam rooms, ensuring appropriate supplies are in the room and necessary equipment is present and sterilized.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, explaining medical treatment procedures as needed.
  • Provide limited education and/or coaching for patients within scope, including discharge information and responding to follow-up questions.
  • Instruct patients about medication and possible allergic reactions.
  • Respond to patients’ questions and concerns in person and via email exchange; if the question is outside of scope, direct inquiries to appropriate person.
  • Assist physician during examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
  • Anticipate Providers’ needs and manage Providers’ requests.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; complete screenings; collect and review patient data per protocol; follow up on test results as directed by healthcare Providers; document specimens collected and results in electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Prepare and administer medication as directed by a physician.
  • Perform clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education is required.
  • Completion of one of the following:
    • Graduation from a medical assisting program (may be a one-year certificate/diploma program or a two-year Associate Degree program) accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); this program must be comprised of at least 720 hours of medical assistant training, including at least 160 hours in a clinical externship;
    • Graduation from an apprentice program approved by the state;
    • Complete at least 720 hours of Medical Assistant college education; OR
    • Earn an equivalent amount of military training related to medical assisting.
  • Currently a certified MA, or eligible to take the certification.
  • One year’s experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
  • Current documentation for one of the following credentials offered through a national accrediting organization is required within 90 days of hire:
    • Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA);
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant;
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through National Healthcareer Association (NHA); or
    • National Certified Medical Assistant through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 90 days of hire. Certifications must be maintained and remain current.
  • Spanish-speaking skills preferred at a level 10.
  • Medical knowledge for understanding theories, reasons, and technical aspects of medicine.
  • Strong people skills to handle different personalities, backgrounds, and personal situations.
  • Strong multi-tasking ability to handle the variety and pace of work.
  • Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic and EMR.
