Job Overview

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Long Branch, NJ to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients
  • Taking and recording vital signs
  • Assisting with examinations and procedures
  • Administering injections and medications as directed
  • Accurately documenting clinical information in the electronic medical record
  • Supporting practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests, and other clerical tasks as assigned
  • Communicating with insurance providers and handling pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary
  • Preparing rooms, arranging instruments and equipment, and ensuring a neat and sanitary environment
  • Rooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical history
  • Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner
  • Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes, as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BLS Certification approved by AHA
  • Completion of a formal medical assistant training program (NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP)
  • At least six months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • PREFERRED: Phlebotomy and EKG experience
  • Experience with electronic medical records; EPIC experience strongly preferred

Scheduling Requirements

Day Shift, 40 hours/week. Need to be flexible with schedule and open to working evenings.

Essential Functions

  • Performs clinical tasks such as EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, injections, vaccinations, and medication administration, treatments and minor surgeries as needed
  • Sets up and cleans up treatment areas
  • Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner
  • Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes, as needed
