Job Overview
RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Long Branch, NJ to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner.
Responsibilities
- Rooming patients
- Taking and recording vital signs
- Assisting with examinations and procedures
- Administering injections and medications as directed
- Accurately documenting clinical information in the electronic medical record
- Supporting practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests, and other clerical tasks as assigned
- Communicating with insurance providers and handling pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary
- Preparing rooms, arranging instruments and equipment, and ensuring a neat and sanitary environment
- Rooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical history
- Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner
- Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes, as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- BLS Certification approved by AHA
- Completion of a formal medical assistant training program (NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP)
- At least six months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- PREFERRED: Phlebotomy and EKG experience
- Experience with electronic medical records; EPIC experience strongly preferred
Scheduling Requirements
Day Shift, 40 hours/week. Need to be flexible with schedule and open to working evenings.
Essential Functions
- Performs clinical tasks such as EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, injections, vaccinations, and medication administration, treatments and minor surgeries as needed
- Sets up and cleans up treatment areas
- Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner
- Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes, as needed
