Certified Medical Assistant

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is at the forefront of Proactive MD’s clinical operations and champions the Patient Promise: “We are only and always about the patient. We Promise to fight for their greatest good.” The CMA supports the health and wellness center’s clinical and clerical operations, assists the provider, performs appropriate tests and procedures, handles administrative tasks, and may help with employee/patient engagement and outreach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with treatments ordered by the provider, supervised by the provider or a registered nurse.
• Perform select clinical duties.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patients' charts.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
• Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, and filing.
• Handle basic materials management functions, such as ordering and stocking supplies.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• Document the provider's encounter with patients, including diagnoses, symptoms, follow‑up instructions, and prescriptions as indicated.
• Transcribe patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.

Qualifications

• Ability to draw blood and confidence in blood‑draw skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association, valid for at least 90 days after start date.
• Experience working with pediatric patients.
• Effective communication skills and ability to maintain working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to prioritize needs and plan work accordingly.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
• Certification in hearing and fit testing preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
• Must be able to pass pre‑employment background checks and drug screen.
