Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Pre-visit Planning/Huddle process for PCMH compliance.
  • Follows up with lab reports, imagining reports, and patient referrals during pre-visit planning.
  • Administers medications, vaccines, urine samples, pregnancy tests, strep tests, etc., as needed.
  • Aid in maintaining control logs (refrigerator temperature monitoring, oxygen tank check, AED checks, glucometer check, emergency kit lock check).
  • Prepare patients for providers appropriately based on presenting diagnosis.
  • Handle prescription refill line and electronic prescription requests.
  • Aid in equipment check and ensuring its working order (EKG machine, vital sign machine, etc.).
  • Distribute health educational information and resources to patients.
  • Request discharge summaries from all patients discharged from ED, inpatients or outside office visits.
  • Ensure quality care is delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Identify and report facility needs, housekeeping needs, and maintain supply par levels.
  • Aid in routine patient care and procedures and ensure patients receive clinical summaries after visit with provider.
  • Communicate with patients identifying barriers to care.
  • Collaborate and follow up with patient's physician and Nurse Manager about all issues and concerns related to patient's care.
  • Ensure customer service standards are continuously demonstrated.
  • Improve patients' quality of life through collaboration and follow-up care.
  • Ensure patient flow is fluid and constant.
  • Ensure exam room and central supply area supplies are well-stocked, inventoried weekly.
  • Perform medication reconciliation during each visit.
  • Perform screening questionnaires when designated: TB hearing, vision, cholesterol screening, PHQ2 and PHQ9.
  • Complete and route referrals to managed care, make appointments or register patients, send out abnormal lab letters, and ensure providers review charts for follow-up.
  • Send no-show letters and handle other specific duties as assigned to each department.
  • Protect patient confidentiality.
  • Strictly follow OSHA guidelines in assigned departments and when performing skills.

Laboratory Duties

  • Collect blood specimens (capillary, venous finger and heel sticks), read hematocrits, administer and read tuberculin tests, test urine, perform stains and culture tests with slides, perform EKGs when applicable, record test and related forms.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas, including maintaining inventory of stocks for lab use and monthly maintenance of the autoclave.
  • Log specimen flow in and out of the lab.
  • Handle and process urine samples for diagnostic tests.
  • Track all anemias, Pap tests, and leads, abnormal lab results via EMR-Link.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Prioritize 1-3 years of Medical Assistant work experience, with the ability to perform phlebotomy procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills and typing.
  • Excellent follow-through skills, prioritizing multiple tasks and attention to detail.
