Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient care support under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider.
- Prepare patients for exams: rooming, vitals, urinalysis; document accurately in the EMR.
- Perform CMA scope tasks: phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, specimen processing, and assist with office procedures.
- Review charts and conduct pre-visit planning; update meds and recent test results.
- Report lab findings to providers and carry out documented orders per protocol and RN/provider supervision.
- Support chronic care management by documenting monthly outreach for enrolled patients.
- Triage patient calls for urgent needs under RN/physician direction.
- Educate and counsel patients using approved guidelines.
- Maintain exam rooms, supplies, instruments, and clinical quality standards.
- Uphold safety, infection control, and confidentiality (HIPAA) at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, clinicians, and staff; contribute to a positive team culture.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential; certification valid in Tennessee.
- Current BLS certification.
- Willing and able to travel to other job/office locations; reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
Preferred Experience
- 12+ months of professional experience as a CMA in an ambulatory or primary care setting.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient with vitals, urinalysis, injections, phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic office procedures.
- Able to interpret and route lab/test results to providers.
- Strong EMR documentation and basic computer skills.
- Sound judgment, calm response in emergencies, and adherence to protocols.
- Excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to quality control, safety, and patient confidentiality.
Physical Requirements
- Sit/stand for extended periods;
- Push, pull, reach;
- Occasional bending/stooping/stretching.
- Full range of motion with adequate hand–eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Normal hearing and vision (with or without correction) to document and communicate.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to travel/relocate to other offices as business needs require.
