About the role
Certified Medical Assistant 1 Float handles patient healthcare under professionals' guidance. Tasks include record-keeping, medication administration, injections, and vital sign documentation. You will act as a versatile resource for various clinics within a designated, local area, providing valuable support for smooth patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assist in patient examination and treatment under the guidance of a physician.
- Prepare and maintain treatment rooms for patient examination, ensuring cleanliness after procedures and maintaining supplies.
- Assist and accompany patients from waiting room to examination room to ensure their comfort.
- Interview patients and record information in their medical records; collect medical data to help physicians assess patient health and needs.
- Ready all necessary documents and forms for each office visit.
- Check patient vital signs before exams, tests, procedures, and x-rays, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Perform routine patient testing, including acquiring and processing electrocardiograms, and collecting and processing blood and urine samples.
- Administer oral, rectal medications, and vaccines as directed; report any adverse reactions promptly.
- Remove sutures and staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings as required.
Key Success Factors
- Open to frequent travel to different clinics within a specified, local region to perform assigned tasks.
- Hard working and self-motivated.
- Certified Medical Assistant credential from an approved program (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists).
- Well-versed in the critical values of secure and accurate medical administration, including the "five rights": right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time.
- Record patient information following policies, regulations, and procedures; familiar with HIPAA guidelines.
- Observe patients' physical condition and promptly report any abnormalities to medical personnel.
- Capable of administering injections and drawing blood.
- Adept at medical terminologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to make patients feel comfortable, friendly, reassuring, and approachable.
- Comfortable taking instructions from doctors.
- Accustomed to handling medical charts and records.
- High regard for detail.

Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Experience: At least one year of experience.
- Certification/License/Registration:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- One of the following certifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from AAMA or AMA.
- Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from NCCT.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from NHA.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT, AAMP, or AAH.
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from NAHP.
- Certified Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from AMCA.
