About the role
The Jacksonville Children's Multispecialty Clinic / Atlantic Medical Management is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for their Alamance / Elon practice - Alamance Pediatrics & Family Medicine.
Responsibilities
- Answer telephones and greet patients in a professional, courteous, and caring manner.
- Properly and systematically update patient medical records and information in NextGen Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
- Absorb and explain treatment procedures to patients using effective and appropriate communication skills received from training.
- Assist in coordinating and conducting patient care from pre-visit through post visit.
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Take medical histories and record vital signs.
- Assist the physician during the examination and procedures, handing instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.
- Change sterile and non-sterile dressings.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; perform laboratory tests on premises.
- Dispose of contaminated supplies; sterilize medical instruments; prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.
- Provide patient with recommended web-based resources.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician; conduct a medical reconciliation of comparing medications that patient is currently taking with medications that is about to be provided to avoid harmful interactions.
- Ensure that appropriate and proper documentation of medical visit is adequately and precisely entered to patient EHR.
- Provide patient with information concerning availability of care during after-hours as needed.
- Participate in work-flow meetings and Quality Improvement (QI) meetings to assist in continuous refining of continuity of care for patients.
- Remain current and up to date on population health data; attend in-house training and lectures to understand trends.
- Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy; authorize drug refills as directed.
- Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Pediatric MA experience preferred.
- 2+ years clinical experience.
- Thorough education or training in the basics of medical terminology.
- The employee must have the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively to the unique needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Self-motivated, analytical, quick learner, organized, detail-oriented, multi-tasker.
