About the Role

Responsible for providing direct resident care and supervision of residents' needs per individualized service/care plan. Monitors residents for changes in condition and signs/symptoms of illness according to federal and state laws, regulations, and community policies. Communicates and documents resident changes or concerns to the Health Services Director. Assists in the supervision of resident assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s). Document all functions related to medication management as required by regulation and community protocols.
  • Obtain, receive, and store medication(s) from the pharmacy.
  • Participate in the medication training program and demonstrate competency per the competency checklist.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the medication storage area.
  • Assist residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, and preparation for community activities.
  • Provide reminders for medical appointments and basic room care.
  • Perform functions as directed by the supervisor, including recording vital signs, weight, and measurements; observing and reporting skin breakdowns; reviewing care plans daily; reporting changes in resident conditions; and recording necessary charting entries.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the supervisor.
  • Prepare residents for meals and snacks and perform after-meal care.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality, treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect, and comply with Residents’ Rights rules.
  • Assist in proper admission, transfer, and discharge of residents; inventory resident possessions; and report defective equipment to administration.
  • Understand and use Universal Precautions; follow infection control, hazardous communication, and other safety rules.
  • Ensure cleanliness of assigned residents’ rooms; properly maintain and record resident restraints.
  • Promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to the supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff meetings.
  • Perform any other tasks, assignments, projects, or requests as deemed by management.

  • Cleanliness, good grooming, and adherence to dress requirements.
  • Ability to organize and utilize time appropriately; requires minimal supervision.
  • Mature behavior and attitude in speech and action.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and teach others.
  • Professional interaction with residents, the public, and co-workers.
  • Cooperation with management and willingness to assist co-workers when needed.
  • Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; effective communication skills.
  • Ability to spend long periods on feet and ambulate quickly.
  • Free of non-treated communicable disease.
  • Ability to work safely and recognize potentially dangerous situations.
  • Willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
  • Neat, accurate, dependable, and ability to keep work/space clean.
  • Ability to work longer than an eight-hour shift, holidays, or overtime, and a seven-day schedule.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds regularly.
  • Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.
  • High school education preferred.
  • Ability to squat, reach, stretch without distress, and tolerate extended periods of walking and standing.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Qualified Medication Aide program with current license.
  • 18–24 months of experience in a similar position.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Twelve (12) plus years of education preferred.
  • Attendance at mandatory in-service training.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
