About the Role

This role is responsible for accurately performing tasks and activities related to decontamination, preparation and packaging, storage, inventory control, and sterilization of instruments, trays, equipment, and supplies. You will fill requests for supplies and equipment, perform associated recording, charging, and computer entry, and handle daily maintenance and housekeeping duties as required. These tasks are performed in accordance with department policies and procedures while demonstrating consideration and concern when interacting with medical staff and employees. Other related duties may be assigned by your supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, prepare, package, and sterilize instruments, trays, equipment, and supplies.
  • Manage storage and inventory control of sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Fulfill requests for supplies and equipment, ensuring accurate recording, charging, and computer entry.
  • Perform daily maintenance and housekeeping duties as required.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, including:
    • Computer and copy machine
    • Dumbwaiters
    • Heat sealers and incubators
    • Washer/decontaminator
    • Fax machine
    • Steam sterilizer, Eto sterilizer, Eto aerator
    • Sterrad sterilizer (plasma)
    • Steris system/sterilizer (paracetic acid)

Requirements

  • Current Central Service Technician certification with IAHCSMM or CBSPD or Surgical Technician certification with the State of Colorado.
  • Central Service Technician certification must be completed within one year if currently holding a Surgical Technician certification.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years’ experience as an Instrument Room or Operating Room Technician.

Skills

  • Basic to advanced knowledge of instrumentation, decontamination, and sterilization processes.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Positive and professional communication with internal and external customers.
