About the Role
Our Histology department processes a wide variety of specimens, including routine histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains. The role requires strong organizational skills to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a high-paced, stressful environment. Teamwork and collaboration with coworkers and other departments are essential to maximize daily workflow efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform all procedures required to prepare tissue specimens for histological diagnosis by the Pathologist.
- For Histotechnologists: Conduct high-complexity histologic and immunohistochemical procedures, test development and validation activities, and provide advanced technical consultation.
Requirements
Histotechnician
- One of the following:
- Associate degree in a laboratory science, or
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program, or
- Education/experience qualifying to take and pass the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Histotechnician exam (minimum 60 college credit hours, including at least 18 combined biology/chemistry credits).
- HT (Histotechnician) certification by the ASCP Board of Registry required within 6 months of hire.
Histotechnologist
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- One of the following:
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histological Technician program, or
- Education/experience qualifying to take and pass the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Histotechnician exam.
- HTL (Histotechnologist) certification required within 6 months of hire.
