About the Role

The Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within Pavilion-8, an Intermediate surgical and medical surgical unit with 30 single rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions.
  • Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices.
  • Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
  • Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
  • Effective communication with patients, visitors, and coworkers.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/technician program or completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited Nursing Program.
  • 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role (at least one of the above qualifications/certifications must be met for hire).
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification (required).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers.

Schedule

Full-time days, 36 hours per week: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM with weekend and holiday rotation.

About the Unit

Pavilion-8 is an Intermediate surgical and medical surgical unit with 30 single rooms, dedicated to providing extraordinary patient care. Surgical services include ENT, Vascular, Plastic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Urology.

The leadership structure includes a clinical director, an assistant clinical director, clinical nurse managers, and a clinical educator, all committed to supporting staff and patient safety. Pavilion-8 is supported by unit secretaries, critical care technicians, and registered nurses seven days a week. Nurses are cross-trained in surgical intermediate within the first year at Cooper.

The unit fosters close relationships with providers, including APNs and Surgical Residents, who are easily accessible for support, questions, and directions. Offices for the leadership team, providers, and transitional care team are located on the unit.
