CERTIFIED CRITICAL CARE TECHNICIAN - PROGRESSIVE CARE UNIT - KELEMAN 8 NORTH

About the Role

The Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within the organization.

Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses, and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges and can accommodate a total of 77 patients (37 on the North side, 36 on the South side). There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. A pharmacist is present on the unit to assist RNs with medication questions, and multidisciplinary rounds occur Monday through Friday involving the entire healthcare team, including the patient and family.

Responsibilities

• Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions.
• Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
• Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices.
• Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
• Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
• Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
• Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
• Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.

Requirements

• 0-2 years’ experience required.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and active Patient Care Technician Certification required.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
• Successful completion of one of these certifications: CPT, CPCT-A, or ACMA.

Schedule

Part-time days, 24 hours per week. Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM with weekend and holiday rotation.
