Overview

Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses, and disease processes. The unit has telemetry capabilities and frequently handles admissions and discharges. Kelemen 8 can accommodate a total of 77 patients (37 on the North side and 36 on the South side). The unit includes two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room and has a pharmacist present to assist with medication questions. Multidisciplinary rounds occur Monday through Friday, involving the entire healthcare team, including patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions.
• Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
• Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices.
• Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
• Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
• Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
• Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
• Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.

Requirements

• 0-2 years’ experience required.
• High School/GED required.
• Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and active Patient Care Technician Certification required.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
• Successful completion of one of these certifications: CPT, CPCT-A, ACMA.

Schedule

Full-time nights, 36 hours per week. Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with weekend and holiday rotation.
