About the role
The Certified Central Sterile Tech plays a crucial role in the surgical department, ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are clean, sterile, and ready for use.
Responsibilities
- Maintains instrument sets/trays, ensuring proper items are available and intact.
- Disassembles, cleans and disinfects instrumentation and equipment.
- Restocks implant trays as needed.
- Maintains needed records for decontamination area and sterilizers.
- Routinely checks for broken, bent or rusted instruments.
- Handles instruments and equipment properly to avoid damage and loss.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital and physician information.
- Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices.
- Aids in the orientation and training of new personnel as assigned.
- Maintains and ensures proper function of sterilizers and washer disinfectors.
- Properly transports all used and sterile instrumentation.
- Works with a variety of instruments under limited supervision with strict guidelines and procedures.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- At least one year of experience in cleaning, assembling, wrapping and sterilization of surgical equipment/supplies preferred.
- CBSPD or CRCST certification required, or must pass within the first 18 months of employment.
- Must have the ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
- Must be able to plan and organize work.
- Must possess proficient computer skills.
- Must have professional and effective communication skills.
