Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training or related field.
- National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board of Certification certified athletic trainer in good standing and eligible for a Virginia Board of Medicine license; Virginia High School League wrestling weight control program certified measurer or willing to become one.
- Proficiency in applicable database software.
- Ability to become a member of NATA District 3 and the Virginia Athletics Trainers Association.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- PREFERRED: Experience in a secondary school setting.
- Educational license with an endorsement in secondary education.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Advises athletes and coaching staff on techniques related to injury prevention, care, and conditioning.
- Provides initial review of physician's physical evaluation of athlete and athlete medical history forms for indications of possible physical conditions which preclude participation in athletics.
- Evaluates injuries/illnesses and interprets clinical findings to determine the appropriate participation status and injury rehabilitation plan.
- Renders first aid and initial assessment during practice, home games, and away football games, when available.
- Provides first aid and initial assessment to visiting team athletes during games and determines appropriate participation status of injured athletes.
- Performs preventative taping, wrapping, and padding of injured areas.
- Fits braces, guards, mouthpieces, and other protective devices, consulting with the athletic equipment staff as necessary concerning proper fit.
- Administers CPR and emergency first aid and assists in the determination of treatment level.
- Assists physicians on rehabilitation of injuries and other medical matters.
- Operates therapeutic devices and equipment.
- Maintains the inventory of appropriate first aid and medical supplies, including automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Oversees and manages athletic training facilities and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition consistent with a health care facility.
- Advise the director of student activities and coaching staff on the safety and condition of training facilities, practice, and competition sites.
- Provides training to coaches in sports first aid as part of a Division coach education program.
- Safeguards the safety and condition of athletic competition by ensuring the elimination of undue hazards.
- Acts as a liaison between and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coaches, school staff, student-athletes, families, physicians, and other community providers.
- Consults with teachers, administrators, and other staff as needed regarding academic support for student-athletes recovering from injury.
- Utilizes a Division-mandated record-keeping system regarding athletic injuries, treatments, and injury/illness examinations.
- Frequent and/or occasional travel within Fairfax County.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.

- This job requires regular standing, sitting, walking, keyboarding, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
Pay
- Salary Range: $75,401 - $130,873
