About the role
The Athletic Trainer at Rivers Health provides on-site injury care and evaluation for student athletes, coordinates with the team physician, and assists in the development and implementation of conditioning programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site injury care and evaluation as well as appropriate acute care treatments, follow-up treatment and rehabilitation as necessary for all injuries sustained by student athletes.
- Coverage for Home Varsity Football games.
- On-site visits to evaluate and treat athletes from all sports when needed.
- Follow-up injury care in physician's office as needed.
- Reconditioning programs.
- Assistance on all matters pertaining to the health and well-being of student athletes.
- Coverage for Emergency Medical Services activation.
- Determine when an athlete may safely return to full participation after an injury (following a physician's authorization when needed).
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all athletic injuries and treatments rendered.
- Supervise the selection, fitting and maintenance of protective equipment.
- Supervise the Athletic Training Room (ATR) and inspect the playing facilities along with the coaching staff.
- Select and maintain athletic training equipment and supplies.
- Aid in the maintenance of records of Athletic Physicals and Medical Permission to Treat forms for all participating athletes.
- Obtain current athlete emergency information from athletic office, or the school student medical records.
- Attend clinics and symposiums as source of continuing education.
- Perform evaluations and special tests for sports injury screenings and ARC baseline evaluations.
- Evaluate and administer gait training.
- Instruct home exercise programs as prescribed by OT, PT and/or Physician.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for ARC Program participants and training programs for Sports Performance Program.
- Perform therapeutic exercise as directed by OT, PT, or physician.
- DME/brace fitting and splint making.
- Answer any questions patients may have.
- Assist in clerical duties including (but not limited to): Scheduling assistance, medical record organization and filing, inventory, etc.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
- Experience working with high school athletes preferred.
- Knowledge of ergonomics and functional assessments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient in computer systems and software.
