Certification Officer
Position Information
Oversee teacher certification processes at Oakland University. Coordinate and communicate teacher certification options for all of the endorsements that Oakland University offers; share knowledge of course requirements for completion of Michigan Department of Education (MDE) endorsements; assist education students and graduates in staying compliant with highly qualified regulations; communicate MDE updates and changes related to teacher certification; participate in state-wide Directors and Representatives of Teacher Education Programs (DARTEP) meetings; and oversee record keeping for various certification documents including Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification (MTTC), audits of planned programs, and records for current and continuing education students. Oversee, administer and manage the Federal and State Education Reporting as well assist the Director of Accreditation and Continuous Improvement with professional accreditation reporting for CAEP and CACREP. Manage this complex and secure data system while assisting faculty in using the system.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience working with Michigan Department of Education teacher certification rules and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and technical skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic colleagues and professionals from outside agencies.
- A strong attention to detail is required to analyze, manage, and interpret large data sets.
- Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- Demonstrated experience with an online student record system such as Banner, ability to create and maintain databases, familiarity with Federal and State Education reports.
- Understanding of state of Michigan teacher certification requirements for both new and existing teachers, administrators, and counselors.
