Cert Patient Care Tech 4N 7PM

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical, and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

About the role

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a nationally certified patient care technician program or WVUM Patient Care Technician program. Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification is also acceptable. Prior patient care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Affords assistance with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
• Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
• Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
• Affords assistance in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
• Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
• Affords assistance in preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
• Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
• Affords support to the department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
• Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a nationally certified patient care technician program or WVUM Patient Care Technician program. Prior patient care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Education, certification, and/or licensure requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a nationally certified patient care technician program or WVUM Patient Care Technician program. National certification in Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire date.

Essential skills include effective communication with staff and patients, and the ability to adapt to changing environments.

Physical requirements

The physical demands of this job require strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking. Working closely with others, working protracted or irregular hours, working around biohazards, working around infectious diseases, working with or near the deceased, working with hands in water, and working with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment are also part of the job.
