Position Summary

This position completes the tasks assigned and the duties that are pertinent to patient care outside the clinic. The contract athletic trainer provides support to local high schools and athletic teams, attends games and competitions, and evaluates injuries to determine their management and possible referral to physicians.

Position Duties

  • Prepares athletes for practice or competition, including taping, bracing, and bandaging.
  • Attends games, competitions, and tournaments.
  • Evaluates injuries to determine their management and possible referral to outside providers.
  • Instructs patients with home exercise programs and monitors patient’s progress as applicable within the constraints of the environment (ex: across a tournament weekend).
  • Provides patient and family education materials as needed.
  • The employee documents actions taken, supplies used, techniques utilized, related measurements, etc. on an injury report which is submitted according to Phoenix Children's policy.
  • Collaborates with the physician regarding patient’s plan of care.
  • Marksets the Phoenix Children's sports medicine program under the direction of the physicians.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine or related field.
  • Experience: One year or more athletic training experience.
  • Special Skills: No special skill requirements.
  • Additional Requirements: Current Arizona Athletic Trainer License, Certified Athletic Trainer from the NATA Board of Certification, and Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
