Ceramic Residency
Application due by May 11th for the 2026–2027 residency running from fall (September/October) through spring (April/May).
About the residency
The Ceramic Artist-in-Residence Program aims to expose the immediate ceramic community—both internal and the greater Pittsburgh area—to fresh perspectives in technique and discipline within the ceramic arts, while also increasing visibility for the participating artist. The program fosters community engagement through:
- Shared studio practice
- Interaction with members and students
- Paid teaching opportunities
- Sales opportunities through the retail shop and markets
- A mid-residency solo exhibition in the gallery space
The residency is best suited for emerging ceramic artists needing studio space, equipment, and community support, with priority given to artists from historically underrepresented groups in the ceramic community. Residents gain skills in managing a fast-paced community studio, which can help secure future opportunities.
Eligibility
Applicants should have a BFA in ceramics or an established practice and body of work.
Residency provisions
- Semi-private studio space
- Access to all PCA&M equipment*
- 600 pounds of studio clay
- Studio glazes and access to all firings
- Modest monthly stipend ($500) to offset living expenses
Responsibilities
- Work 10–15 hours per week on studio maintenance
- Present one exhibition and artist talk in January for members and the public
- Be an active member of the studio community
- Complete one studio improvement project based on interest and skills

- 15 shared studio wheels
- Pug mill
- Bench grinder
- Photo booth for documentation
Shared residency/manager space includes 2 dedicated shelves, a work table, and a shared wheel. Limited access to print, small metals, and photography studios, as well as a computer lab.
