Full-time position located in Cape Girardeau, MO within the Facilities Management department. Starting wage: $22.48 per hour, increasing to $23.28 after successful completion of probationary period.
About the Role
Central Stores Technician responsible for managing mail, packages, inventory, and supplies for all campus departments. This role involves operating mail processing equipment, delivering materials, supervising student and temporary employees, and maintaining records for procurement and inventory.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming mail, parcels, and freight from carriers such as U.S. Post Office, UPS, FedEx, and Amazon for distribution across campus.
- Assist with mail and package delivery to campus and the Post Office.
- Operate technology and equipment associated with mail processing.
- Ensure all mail and packaging processes meet industry requirements.
- Answer phone calls and provide customer service for mail, purchasing, and warehouse inquiries.
- Supervise student and temporary employees.
- Maintain files and records for procurement, inventory, and mail services.
- Store and deliver supplies, materials, and other items as requested.
- Manage inventory and conduct annual physical inventory for warehouse and non-warehouse stock.
- Obtain bids and quotes from vendors for tools, materials, and operational supplies.
- Maintain loaner tools inventory and ensure proper tracking of tools.
- Assist with barcode labeling of stock items for efficient tracking.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to live within 30 minutes travel time from the University.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including heavy work, and lift 50 pounds with or without accommodations.
- Experience operating a forklift and pallet jack.
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures and terminology.
- Familiarity with mail and packaging services.
Skills
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office software and database management.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to verify and reconcile data, including basic mathematical calculations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Commitment to customer service while working with individuals both internal and external to the university.
