Central Sterilizing Supervisor - 3rd Shift - North Liberty Hospital

About the role

University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center North Liberty department of Central Sterilizing Services is looking for a Supervisor to provide a specialized level of technical service relative to the processing of instruments for UI Health Care ORs and clinics.

Responsibilities

The supervisor collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff in order to insure safe and effective patient care as it relates to sterile processing. This position provides staff monitoring, guidance, coaching, and counseling to assure the best in patient outcomes are achieved.

• Provide specialized level of clinical/technical expertise in the reprocessing of instruments - including cleaning, inspecting, disinfecting, and sterilizing.
• Identify training gaps and proactively assess educational needs.
• Maintain and update equipment and supplies used in instrument reprocessing.
• Performs all duties performed by the Central Service technicians as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, nursing, or related field: or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Central Sterilizing.
• Must possess and maintain certification through a nationally recognized central sterilizing service training program such as HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
• Proficient in computer software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A minimum of 2 years related experience working in a medical field that includes a sterile processing component.

Qualifications

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus opened in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility is home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues.

• Provide health education and feedback to individual staff members relative to department operations.
• Monitor the effectiveness of training methods to a variety of audiences such as technicians, clinicians, and administrators.
• Collaborate with others on the health care team related to clinical/technical specification to assure a common goal of safe and effective delivery of care.
• Communication to a variety of audiences through data.

Pay

Salary: $47,380 to commensurate
