About the role

The CST provides full support to the successful operations of the dental and medical department utilizing the appropriate standards for maintaining and sterilization for all instruments utilized in the outpatient dental and medicine procedures areas.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical and dental supplies following proper sterilization standards.
  • Assemble, sterilize, wrap and seal trays of instruments following proper sterilization standards.
  • Monitor biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Sort and categorize instruments and medical equipment according to procedures assuring that the correct and complete instrument trays accordingly.
  • Maintain proper storage of instruments displaying sterilization wrapping dates and making sure that all trays available for usage is within timeframe standards.
  • Absorb and assist with the ordering, replacement and inventory control of all instruments, supplies and materials to meet the correct levels and standards.
  • Maintain biomedical inspection review and reports up to date, display all bio-hazard inspection stickers as required by Joint Commission environment of care.
  • Provide weekly review of sterilization equipment, review calibrations assure equipment is in full compliance and working standards.
  • Maintain dental and medical log and tagging system to make sure proper tracking of all instruments are returned to the correct practices.
  • Perform and log BD and Spore testing as necessary, report failures ASAP and collect all instruments that were processed during failed cycles.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma, successfully completed Central Sterile Service Program and provide certificate accredited by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical practice as a Sterilization Tech.
  • Renew certification annually which requires 12 CE credits per year relevant to the central sterilization field.
  • Attend annual in-services regarding equipment.

  • Must have full knowledge and experience regarding the operations of all sterilization equipment and instrument procedure case system.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of sterilization equipment and procedures.
