About the role

This position provides clerical assistance in the operation of the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Rush City mailroom, sorting and distributing all incoming and outgoing mail to staff and offenders. This position also assists in the offender canteen, property, and assists as the receiving clerk for Support Services Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for people who either work, visit, or reside within the correctional facility, with a major emphasis on security to prevent contraband and unallowable items from entering or leaving this facility through the mailroom, property or loading dock.
  • Perform basic math calculations such as correctly processing orders and UPS shipments, determining proper mail postage, reconciling order statements, and preparing purchase requests.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately while speaking or writing, and understand the variety of documents necessary to read.
  • Perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Prepare documents and reports that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors.
  • Enter data in, develop, and manipulate spreadsheets using word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Access and update DOC-specific databases and other computer systems to gather and report data.
  • Query information from computer logs and systems such as the Correctional Operations Management System (COMS).
  • Deal diplomatically with staff, offenders, other agencies, and the public via the phone and in-person.

Requirements

  • Math skills sufficient to perform basic math calculations.
  • English language skills (written, oral, and ability to read).
  • Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks.
  • Word processing skills (preferably Microsoft Word).
  • Spreadsheet software skills (preferably Microsoft Excel).
  • Data entry skills sufficient to access and update DOC-specific databases and other computer systems.
  • Database management skills sufficient to query information from computer logs and systems.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to deal diplomatically with staff, offenders, other agencies, and the public.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a mailroom in a large organization.
  • Experience working in a secured or correctional setting.
  • Experience working with fixed assets in a large organization.
  • Knowledge of iTag, COMS and/or JPay.

Pay

$21.12 - $28.01 / hourly; $44,098 - $58,484 / annually

Schedule

Day Shift: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
