About the role

The Central Scheduler is responsible for scheduling, interviewing, and when applicable, pre-registering all patients utilizing Midland Memorial’s services. This includes entering diagnostic testing orders, demographics, and insurance information into the hospital information system to facilitate patient care and hospital billing procedures. The role ensures efficient patient flow through scheduling and registration systems while adhering to fiscal procedures. The Central Scheduler acts as a liaison for patients, addressing questions about scheduled tests, exams, or procedures, including preparations, insurance coverage, estimated patient liability, and collections. The incumbent also performs clerical duties under the direct supervision of the department manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides scheduling functions for all assigned department procedures in the hospital setting.
  • Schedules procedures via the hospital information system following established protocols to promote physician satisfaction and scheduling efficiencies; coordinates STAT scheduling directly with technologists and physicians as needed.
  • Maintains communication within central scheduling, including answering phones and providing information and directions to patients and guests.
  • Promotes positive interactions with co-workers, customers, and guests.
  • Obtains all pre-certifications required by payers from physician offices for scheduled procedures.
  • Solves practical problems and interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Course in medical terminology or hospital/physician office experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a helpful, courteous manner with high patient contact.
  • Effective at adjusting to change, prioritizing duties, handling stress, and communicating with employees, patients, and physicians.

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, speak, and hear.
  • Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. Use an assisted-lift device or seek assistance for lifts exceeding these limits.
