About The Unit
William Beaumont University Hospital is a Level I Trauma, Academic Medicine facility. The Central Processing Department (CPD) supports Surgical Services, as well as other departments by providing sterile instrumentation for surgical and other procedures. CPD Technicians maintain and sterilize a variety of instrumentation from surgical specialties such as Open Heart, Neurosurgery and Robotic procedures. The CPD Technician is the first point in care of the surgical patient by ensuring sterile instrumentation in good working order. As such, the CPD Technician must have knowledge of complex instrumentation and the industry standards, as well as staying abreast of ever-changing technology of surgical instrumentation.

Scope of work
- Prepares supplies for surgery
- Decontaminates patient care equipment
- Prepares floor trays for sterilization
- Cleans case carts
- Operates washers and ultrasonic cleaners
- Transports instruments to and from surgery
- Assists the department in meeting regulatory compliance
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
