About the Role
Works to enhance academic success and socio-emotional well-being of students by providing direct and indirect social work services, fostering partnerships, and facilitating communication between school, home, and the community. Leads initiatives at a district center to improve graduation rates and address student needs. This role requires expertise in the field and the ability to operate with limited oversight.
Responsibilities
- Plans, implements, and evaluates school-based prevention and intervention programs to support the academic, career, and personal/social development of students.
- Serves as a liaison between home, school, and the community by facilitating communication and collaboration with students, parents, staff, and external agencies.
- Counsels students individually or in groups on issues such as grief, mental/physical health challenges, academic concerns, disciplinary matters, attendance problems, and family issues to ensure students' success.
- Serves as an internal subject matter expert, providing guidance to colleagues as required.
- Develops professional learning opportunities for school personnel and community groups while also hosting parent/family-centered programs that support the local community.
- Analyzes data to identify educational impediments, recommends solutions through complex analysis and consideration of multiple variables, and aligns strategies with resources to promote student success.
- Prepares reports for submission to entities such as the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and/or the DeKalb County School District (DCSD), ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Advises school administrators on critical issues impacting student achievement and assists in securing necessary tests or examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial interventions.
- Serves as a departmental liaison within divisions such as Equity and Student Empowerment to integrate services designed to improve student performance across various departments.
- Completes additional duties related to program administration, such as conferring with faculty about student matters and assisting parents in navigating educational systems for their children's benefit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related field from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university required.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional social work, counseling, or closely related experience required.
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in school social work at level S-5 or above required.
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in educational leadership at level L-5, NL-5, PL-6, or above preferred. If a level L-5, NL-5, PL-6, or above certificate is not held, the individual must be eligible for the NPL certificate in educational leadership.
