Center Staff
About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager and the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, Center Staff are responsible for overall supervision including basic customer service, minimal custodial duties, and monitoring the Fitness Center. Center Staff members assist at occasional special events on and off premises.
Department & schedule
Recreation Department. Morning shifts 5am-10am; afternoon closing shifts 2pm-6pm and/or 5-9:15pm closing; weekend shifts 7:45am-2pm and 2pm-8:15pm.
Qualifications
- Experience preferred.
- Ability to complete the essential functions of the position.
- Good work ethic, honesty and reliability.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the particular position.
Essential functions
- Unlock, open, and prepare building for use on days when needed.
- Review and observe the published facility schedule.
- Set-up and take down in rooms as needed.
- Once a room rental is finished, clean, remove garbage, close windows, check for damage (write a report of any damage), and lock rooms once rentals are finished.
- Continuously walk to monitor activities or maintenance needs in halls, rooms, gym, bathrooms, parking lots and perimeter of building.
- Monitor patrons for appropriate behavior and usage and request that those not following the rules to leave the facility.
- Check open play passes and have all non-pass holders report to the front desk to pay admission fee.
- Pick up loose litter and change garbage bags before end of shift. Minimal custodial clean-up as required.
- Complete daily checklist of duties.
- Assist any injured persons, call 911, complete Accident Report if necessary.
- Lock up/secure building at the end of the day.
- Work in cooperation with office staff.
- Call 911 whenever needed, i.e. fire, unruly patron, etc.
- Attend any staff meetings and trainings as requested.
- Work at special events as needed.
- Alert supervisors of any problems, special occurrences, or maintenance problems.
- Obey and enforce the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the safety program of the Park District of Franklin Park.
- Direct patrons as needed and attempt to answer questions or refer them to the appropriate person to get questions answered, general customer service.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the park district's policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
- Become knowledgeable of park district programs and facilities to better assist users.
- In emergency evacuation or tornado situation work in conjunction with office staff to either clear patrons from the building or get into "safe" locations during the tornado.
- Always, to the best of your ability, provide a safe environment for yourself, the patrons, and other park district personnel using the facility.
- Perform other duties and functions as requested by the Park District of Franklin Park.
- Support all safety, health and loss control policies adopted by the park district. Work to ensure the safety of every employee and customer and the protection of equipment and facilities.
Psychological considerations
Must be able to handle questions and concerns from the public in a professional manner. Must be able to work with co-workers. Must be able to respond to deadlines and crisis situations.
Physical & environmental conditions
Be physically able to set-up and take down heavy tables and chairs, transport equipment between rooms, carry garbage bags to dumpster, et al. Indoor environmental conditions will include changes in lighting, temperature, and noise.

Required to communicate clearly with the public and co-workers.
