About the role

Center Program Special Education Teachers create inclusive, rigorous, and supportive learning environments for students with disabilities across DSST’s nine center-based programs. Each teacher leads instruction and case management, serving students with a range of disabilities and learning needs. Teachers design and deliver targeted academic, behavioral, and life-skills instruction, collaborate with general education staff and families, and supervise a team of paraprofessionals to ensure every student is known, supported, and celebrated.

  • Cross-Categorical Center Program: Serves students with a variety of disabilities; focuses on grade-level academics, executive functioning, and personal development. Located at DSST: Cedar Middle & High School.
  • Affective Needs Center Program: Supports students whose primary disability is social, emotional, or behavioral; includes direct SEL instruction and integration into general education classes. Located at DSST: Cole High School.
  • Multi-Intensive Center Program: Serves students with intellectual disabilities through functional academics, adaptive and vocational skill development, and independence-building. Located at DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle & High School.
  • Multi-Intensive Autism Center Program: Supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder using Applied Behavior Analysis strategies (reinforcement, prompt fading, incidental teaching). Located at DSST: Montview Middle & High School.
  • Multi-Intensive Severe Center Program: Serves students with at least two disabilities, one of which must be an intellectual disability; focuses on functional communication, self-care, and environmental access through sensory-rich experiences. Located at DSST: Conservatory Green Middle & High School.
  • 18–21 Transition Program: Serves students ages 18–21 with diverse disabilities; focuses on pre-employment and independent living skills through job-site coaching and community-based instruction. Located at DSST: Montview High School.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as IEP case manager: write data-driven IEPs, develop goals, monitor progress, deliver targeted academic and behavioral interventions, and celebrate success with each student’s team of teachers and family.
  • Ensure students receive accommodations and modifications: partner with general education teachers to implement accommodations and modifications with intentionality and consistency; advocate for diverse learners by participating on the MTSS Team.
  • Manage a team: supervise and develop a team of paraprofessionals.
  • Deliver rigorous and engaging content: use DSST’s curriculum resources to plan, intellectually prepare, and teach rigorous, culturally responsive, grade-level-aligned content to 3–5 classes daily.
  • Track and support student growth: monitor and assess student performance using a variety of tools to guide instruction and support individual growth.
  • Promote positive culture: employ DSST culture systems to build and maintain trusting relationships with students and families.
  • Pursue professional development: engage in regular coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Contribute to the school community: undertake additional duties such as student recruitment, advisory classes, after-school tutoring, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Valid teaching license and special education endorsement. Out-of-state candidates should contact the Colorado Department of Education for credential transfer information.
  • Ideal: Proven commitment to and experience with students of color, students with disabilities, and/or multilingual students; experience teaching and implementing positive behavior supports in academic, communication, executive functioning, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.

Pay

$64,000–$82,000 based on up to 10 years of aligned experience. Relocation stipend available for candidates moving from 75+ miles outside Denver.
