About the Role

Working in coordination with the other members of the Center Leadership Team and under the direction of the Regional Medical Directors, the Center Medical Director delivers high-quality healthcare in an efficient, affordable, and caring manner. The role drives daily center execution following the industrial athlete model, inspires colleague accountability to provide superb patient and employer experience, and is responsible for the assigned clinic’s daily medical functions. The Center Medical Director’s leadership combines broad vision with a critical eye for internal operations and quality assurance, contributing to the success of the business strategy by ensuring medical operations meet key performance indicators, educating clinical staff, and helping drive business growth and retention at the Center level.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers direct patient care both in-clinic and via telemedicine according to established principles of clinical practice and organizational needs.
  • Ensures integrity of all clinical procedures, documentation, and maintenance of up-to-date protocols, including risk management.
  • Ensures day-to-day execution of quality care, customer and colleague satisfaction, and compliance with individual State Practice Act/Rules, Regulations, and Workers' Compensation Regulations.
  • Utilizes Evidence-Based Medicine with a focus on early intervention and patient empowerment.
  • Creates an appropriate treatment environment and ensures documentation and billing are clear, relevant, accurate, and thorough.
  • Works with Regional and State Medical Directors to manage clinical staffing, scheduling, and operations to optimize patient outcomes while meeting key performance indicators.
  • Serves as the primary contact for employers/clients with questions regarding medical care of injured employees and responds professionally to requests, including onsite tours and educational presentations.
  • Supervises pre-employment testing programs, including working with Sales and Clinic Administrator to facilitate new client setup.
  • Provides clinical and quality oversight of the Medical Center, identifying improvement opportunities and resolving provider quality issues.
  • Attends and co-leads weekly Clinic Leadership Team (CLT) meetings.
  • Assesses strengths and developmental opportunities of medical providers and provides access to training and incentive plans to enhance performance.
  • Fosters a "community of practice" through peer-based learning and interaction with clinical colleagues.
  • Provides input into the design and implementation of educational programs for patients, employers, and medical staff.
  • Shapes the culture of the Medical Center by recognizing individual performance, encouraging progression, and motivating the team to higher engagement and productivity.
  • Provides regular, timely guidance and feedback, building trust within the clinical team and leading by example.
  • Facilitates resolution of interpersonal and performance issues of medical providers at the Center.
  • Conducts peer reviews of junior providers, including periodic chart reviews and feedback sessions focused on maintaining high standards of patient care, documentation, and accurate billing/coding.
  • Trains Medical Assistant support staff in clinical skills.
  • Builds relationships with new and existing clients, providing onsite tours and discussing the MBI treatment model to grow the client base.
  • Reviews Center financial performance and KPIs with the Clinic Administrator to ensure optimal results and implement action plans as needed.
  • Works with Regional and State Medical Directors to understand all financial aspects of the clinic’s productivity (e.g., practice patterns, referrals, scheduling, patients per hour, P&L).
  • Ensures the level of service and coding is optimized for every visit and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Supervises all Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Radiology Techs, and Medical Assistants in the Center, including yearly written evaluations, assessment, and definition/modification of individual job duties.
  • Collaborates with the Clinic Administrator for annual reviews of Medical Assistants and X-ray Technicians.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Occupational Medicine experience preferred; otherwise, experience in Urgent Care, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Sports Medicine, or Orthopedics will be considered.
  • FMCSA certification for DOT exams or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Current state licensure in good standing (or in process).
  • Current DEA licensure.
  • Current BLS certificate.
  • Solid, demonstrated knowledge of the practice and application of occupational medicine.
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing rehabilitation services, workers' compensation, clinical procedures, and diagnoses/treatment of occupational injury and disease.
  • Working knowledge of medical office administration and procedures.
  • Sound administration and management skills.
  • Ability to instruct, teach, and correct.
  • Confident and professional demeanor with medical providers, administrators, and clients.
  • Board Certification in primary specialty (Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Orthopedics preferred; others will be considered).
  • MRO certification preferred.
  • Ability to perform treadmill stress tests preferred.
