Under direction, performs and directs the activities in the operation and maintenance of the city cemetery.
Responsibilities
- Sells lots and maintains cemetery land and related records
- Performs and supervises the digging and filling in of graves
- Mows and waters lots and surrounding grounds
- Locates graves and maintains plot map
- Operates and repairs light and medium equipment
- Works with the public, morticians, and monument salesmen in planning funeral arrangements
- Prepares plans for future development of cemetery
- Collects fees and charges
- Prepares budget estimates for cemetery
- Selects and recommends new employees
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to plan, assign, instruct, and review the work of subordinates in the operation of a cemetery
- Ability to operate and repair backhoe and lawn care equipment
- Ability to supervise the work of others
- Ability to deal courteously and sympathetically with the public
- Knowledge of seeds, soils, fertilizers, trees, shrubs, and flowers
- Some knowledge of accounting procedures
Requirements
- Completion of high school or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Four years experience performing manual labor is required; seven years preferred
- A current Kansas driver’s license
- Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends
Physical Requirements
- Intense physical effort is required
- Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time
Working Conditions
Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $20.42 to $29.61.
